World Poetry Day is on 21 March and was declared by
UNESCO in 1999.
The purpose of the day is to promote the reading,
writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world and as the
UNESCO session declaring the day says to “give fresh recognition and impetus to
national, regional and international poetry movements.”
The establishment of the World Poetry Day as an
official international institution was then a Greek proposal. Poet Michalis
Mitras recommended to the Writers Company, back at 1997,this celebration. The Company
accepted the suggestion and 21st of March was choosen as the
celebration day.
The vernal equinox as suggested by the poet Stephen
Lynch,is a symbolic date that combines the light from the one hand and darkness
on the other.Poetry does the exact same, combines the bright face of optimism
and the dark face of mourning.
Deceitful time what a great thief you are.
You stole my memories,
you stole my feelings.
You threw dust all over my mind
and now i can not remember,
who was standing by my side, through the yaers,
not even who i was,what i've seen,how i have lived.
Time i want you to pay for that crime.
The crime that made me and my beloved, disappear.
